Why do I need a health check?

Anyone can get heart disease or diabetes or kidney disease or have a stroke. As you get older you are more at risk of getting these illnesses. There are some things that can make you more likely to get these illnesses.

These are:

  • being overweight
  • not keeping fit
  • not eating a good diet
  • smoking
  • drinking too much alcohol
  • having high blood pressure
  • having too much fat in your blood, called high cholesterol.

You can have these things if you are a man or a woman and they may cause:

  • a stroke
  • a heart attack
  • a cancer
  • kidney disease
  • diabetes
  • certain types of dementia

Having a health check can help stop you getting these illnesses and keep you fit and well. Even if you feel fit and well it is a good idea to have a health check. We can catch some illnesses early on before you know you have them.

Some illnesses run in families. It is a good idea to have a health check as you may be more at risk of getting some things.

MediWell Health Check

At MediWell Clinic, we aim to provide a comprehensive health screen, whilst avoiding unnecessary tests and expense.  Our Health Screening packages can help you improve your health and identify problems early.  If any onward tests or management are needed, your care can be seamlessly referred to our specialists.

The Health Essential Male Package includes the following

  • A review of your medical history & examination with our in-house GP
  • BMI check (Height and weight measurement)
  • Blood pressure (to rule out high/low blood pressure)
  • ECG (to check basic heart rhythm and identify abnormalities)
  • Scrotum and Testicular Examination (to examine for any lumps or abnormalities. This is performed with a chaperone present.)
  • A comprehensive series of bloods tests including: Full Blood Count, Fasting Lipid profile, Fasting Glucose profile, Glycosylated Haemoglobin, Urea and Creatinine, Liver Function Test, Thyroid Hormone profile, Vitamin D and Iron, plus a PSA tumour marker.
  • Ultrasound of the Abdomen and Pelvis, this type of imaging uses sound waves to produce pictures of the organs. It is used to assess organs such as the kidneys, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and spleen. Ultrasound is safe, non-invasive and does not use ionising radiation.
  • Ultrasound Scrotum – to assess for abnormalities within the scrotum.
